ABOUT THE CAVES
The best in Canada! That is one way to describe the cave resources of Vancouver Island, home to more than 1,000 caves. At Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park you can experience the magic of the underground world in the many caves protected within the surrounding provincial park. Horne Lake Caves has been a popular spot for locals and visitors to explore for decades, with Horne Lakes Provincial Park established in 1971. Operations at the site were conducted by a small group of dedicated volunteers for a number of years during the 1980s. Before long, the growing popularity of Horne Lake Caves made operating the site increasingly difficult for a small group of volunteers. In 1989 Richard Valera and a small group of partners stepped in and carried on operations at the caves, beginning a love affair that has lasted for over three decades. The past 30 years have seen Horne Lake Caves grow significantly under Richard’s leadership, both in popularity and in size with many new rooms and tunnels now explored. In 2011, Canada’s first and only cave interpretive centre was built on the site. This facility educates visitors of all ages on the ecology of caves in a fun and engaging way.
The Horne Lake Caves team is continually working to further improve the accessibility and safety of Horne Lake Caves in an environmentally conscious manner. Like most cave systems in the world, Horne Lake Caves has not been completely-explored yet. Exploring and mapping out these caves is an ongoing project for us here at Horne Lake Caves.

Where does the name come from?
Knockananna (Cnoc an Eanaigh)…
means “the hill of the marsh”, and is the area in Ireland’s County Wicklow near where Deb’s grandfather (Herb Wilson) was born. Herb celebrated his 99th birthday the same week we “opened the doors” of the first phase of the Grill in 2009, so the name seemed fitting. He was one of the best cooks we know (and for a brief time in the 1950’s he and Deb’s grandmother operated a diner in East Vancouver, “The Rodo Lunch” on Nanaimo St & Charles St). His cooking style was the reason we choose to prepare as much as possible using real, fresh, unprocessed, and local foods!

Our truck is more than just a place to grab lunch. It is a place to try out creative twists (with an Irish theme) on food truck classics, using local fresh ingredients.

We bring great food to the seaside in Qualicum Beach. Our calendar below shows our schedule, but be sure to follow our social media for special events!

Volunteer organization in support of our veterans and serving members of the armed forces & RCMP, and their families. Dedicated to remembrance of all those that have served and given their lives for our country.
Proud to support our community through weekly activities, monthly family and adult orientated events including Canada Day family activities, Indy 211 Lawnmower Races and Remembrance Day services as well as many other dinners and functions throughout the year. Net proceeds of meat draws go back into the community through scholarships, bursaries and donations back to agencies that provide support services in Bowser and surrounding communities.
Lounge hours are Wednesday & Thursday – 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Friday & Saturday – 4:00pm to 10:00pm
Meat Draws are held every Friday at 5:00pm and Saturdays at 4:30pm. Kitchen is also open Fri & Sat. Hall & gazebo rentals are available – catering can also be provided through the Branch or the Ladies Auxiliary.
Membership is appreciated but guests are welcome. Membership is OPEN to ALL citizens of Canada and the Commonwealth of legal voting age. Many events through the year are open to the public. Regular attendance in the lounge or for weekly events may be restricted to members in good standing.
